In the 70 years since his disappearance, Everett Ruess has become an enigmatic cult hero, largely because of the great dichotomy of what is known and un-known of his short life. The un-disputable prodigy has become the foremost icon for America’s Western red rock and high country wilderness. Often grouped with Thoreau and John Muir, his current legacy is much more James Dean; the American iconoclast.
His childhood journeys were extremely well documented in period photography. He left behind a myriad of words and hundreds of pieces of art that model his life. But due the mystery of his disappearance and the contradictions he represents, even less is known about his motivations and reality.
In the present day, people take from Everett's story what they see in themselves. What is known about Everett Ruess is an un-disputable dedication to beauty and lack of trepidation that runs through only the best of humanity. This is something that everyone can gravitate to. Please enjoy that spirit as your browse the merchandise here that bears Everett’s stamp.
